Handbook of Dermoscopy First Edition
This handbook is based on images, structures and features as seen
with light emitting diode (LED) light contact dermoscopy, utilizing a
liquid interface, or a dermoscope equipped with cross-polarization lens.
Polarization eliminates the need for a liquid interface or direct contact with
the skin. Although, most of the structures and colors seen with LED dermoscopy and polarized dermoscopy are equivalent, there are some notable differences.
For those using polarized dermoscopy, it is important to note that the following structures are more difficult to appreciate under polarized light: blue-white veil; regression structures (blue-gray areas/granules, peppering); and milia-like cysts. However, milky-red areas and vascular structures are much easier to see with polarized dermoscopy.
